The olive groves had not been pruned for about 10-12 years when we purchased the finca. All the trees were overgrown and the land between them was a carpet of grasses, wild flowers and weeds.
We didn't do any serious work on the olive groves in the first summer, but after that we started clearing the overgrowth from the neglected olives trees and bringing the groves back towards a productive state.,br>Since then we have steadily worked at pruning the trees and clearing the weeds. In early 2009, we bought a tractor, which was a major step forward in working on the olive trees and clearing the ground between them.
Now all the land is being tilled and then rolled flat each year so we can start collecting the olives that are beginning to appear on the trees again.
